Books 2009 - 2

Garden of Iden - Kage Baker - good read. A sort of historical fiction/ science fiction crossoverishness. I am interested to see what happens in the next one.

Heart of Gold - Sharon Shinn - very enjoyable. Ending was a bit unexpected, but very much follows from the prior story

I really liked both of those books. Sharon is local to me and I own everything she has out - I really like her Twelve Houses series, though I miss how her earlier works tended to obviously wrestle with large contemporary themes in the grand tradition of SF. Heart of Gold and Wrapt in Crystal both have that, and I really *like* them both and recommend them frequently. The Twelve Houses are lighter and fun and still really good, just not as heavy.

The rest of the series about the Company by Kage Baker gets darker and darker as you go on. I finally had to stop reading it. Still well crafted, but...intense.
